Abstract :This paper shows how the local heat transfer coefficients along rectangular ducts are affected by the aspect ratios of a duct varying in the range 1.0~2.6 in order to obtain the basic information on the heat transfer mechanisms in both square and rectangular ducts. It was found that the streamwise local heat transfer coefficients at a lower wall are higher than that at a side wall except the aspect ratio AP=1. As an aspect ratio increases, the local values on both walls increase, moreover the heat transfer coefficients at far downstream attain to the results obtained from the circular duct or the parallel plate duct. The dependency of an aspect ratio on the heat transfer characteristics of the rectangular duct is also presented.
