Abstract :From around the Ryukyu Settlement of 1879 to around the Sino-Japanese War (of 1894-95) , the old ruling Class, upper Class of the Ryukyuan gentry, had carried out numerous political activities to survive, by various means of petition to Japanese and Chinese government authorities, sabotages and riots against the rule of Japanese government, political abscondence to China, etc.. The activities must be reckoned a kind of "national movement" that Ryukyu ethnicity had acted to maintain the Ryukyu Kingdom befor the abolishment of Han (藩) in 1879, and to restore the Kingdom after 1879. In this sense, the movement was in attempt of Ryukyu ethnic salvation. Included in this article are some of the petitions Which the Ryukyuan exiles had exhibited to Chinese goverment authorities. THe author investigated these petition's content and translated each of them from Chinese into Japanese, and further commented upon them with the historical background. The value of the petition as historical materials was examined too.
