Abstract :A philological investigation of the effects of Hemerocallis on one's body when it is consumed as food was undertaken. There were differences between the effects of Hemerocallis as stated in the books published in Okinawa Prefecture and those described in the books published outside of Okinawa. The latter made mention of antipyretic actions and diuretic actions as the major effects of Hemerocallis. A number of books published within Okinawa indicated the alleviation of insomnia as a major effect of Hemerocallis. With regard to Akinowasuregusa (Hemerocallis fulva L. var. semperuirens M. Hotta), a Hemerocallis genus of the lily family, a powder derived from freeze-dried flowers was administered to ddY micesome for one month and others for approximately a year. None of the mice revealed inhibitory actions in the studies using a step-down type of environmental equipment, an eight-directional radial maze type, and a watermaze type.
