Abstract :The purpose of this study was to develop stress management approach (stress management education) in the integrated study and to observe the effect of promoting stress control techniques to third year students in a public junior high school. Further, we evaluated this approach in collaboration with school teachers. A total of five classes consisting of 168 were selected in this study (effective answer rate 88.9%). The structure of this stress management approach was to explain what stress theories are, and to introduce relaxation techniques for the subjects to practice. Also, the subjects were asked to answer questionnaire both at the beginning and a week after the integrated study to assess the effect of this attempt, such as stress response, stress coping behavior, and the knowledge of stress theories that were summarized as follows: 1) Reduction of the total stress response was not significant. However, the score of "depression" and "anxiety" were each significantly decreased. 2) The frequency of suitable stress coping behavior by the subject was not significant. However the frequency of only suitable coping (A cognitive change: I am kept from considering a disagreeable thing.) was significantly increased (t=-3.02, p=0.003) . 3) The frequency of unsuitable stress coping behavior (They took their stresses out on the others. / I ignore to others.) was significantly decreased (t=2.65, p=0.009) . 3) The score on the knowledge of stress theories was significantly increased (t=-10.68, p<.OO1) . In conclusion, the total stress response of the participants did not decrease immediately by this approach. However, the score of "depression" and "anxiety" were each significantly decreased, and the desirable change of stress coping behavior and the knowledge of stress theories suggest that this approach was effective even in integrated study. In addition, this approach estimated that a student's 70 percent was good. However, the subject was reconfirmed that this stress management approach needs to be more time and man's power from the result of after evaluation with school teachers. Thus, in future research, it is based on the concept of health promoting school, we should creative and collaborative among researchers and school teachers (school health staff), local community persons efficiently for the development of stress management education.
