Abstract :This paper examines the compound conjunction that forms the system of adverbial clauses in present-dey Japanese. I will demonstrate the system of adverbial clauses as follows. The adverbial clauses with the compound conjunction are classified into the inflectional type that consists of "inflection of the word + affix" and the conjunctive particle type that consists of "sentence + conjunctive particle." Moreover, I will also argue from the above view of adverbial clauses that the event in the adverbial clause of the inflectional type has a subsumed relation under a main clause event, and it of the conjunctive particle type has a relation of equality with a main clause event.
