Title :「なんちゃって」の用法の分析試論
Title alternative :A Study of a Japanese fixed phrase nanchatte

Abstract :This paper examines the usages of a Japanese fixed phrase, nanchatte, from pragmatic perspective. This phrase first appeared around 1978, when it was used right after a speech act and it seemed to cancelle what has been previously uttered. This usage has changed and reappeared around 1997; this recent usage is characterized by its noun modifying function. It will be argued, first, that this speech act cancellation function is better understood by the failure of one of its sincerity conditions. Second, taking the noun modifying function into consideration, it will be suggested that these two usages are connected with the notion of "meta-repair", which proposes the change of hearer's recognition frame. It will be also pointed out that the use of "nanchatte+N" can be captured as a "parody" in Butler's (1990) term.
