Title :竹富島の植物相(附属演習林)

Abstract :The vegetation and flora of Taketomi-jima (island) in the Ryukyus were investigated by the author in August 1984. The Island is located at 24°19′N. 1at. and 124°05′E. long., about 4km southwest of Ishigaki-jima. The Taketomi-jima is almost entirely composed of raised coral limistone and flat, and has a oval outline with an area of 541ha. The annual average temperature, as estimated from it record on a nearly island Kohama-jima, and rainfall recorded on the Taketomi-jima for a period from 1941 to 1944 are 24.3℃ and 2208.3mm, respectively. It was found that the vegetation on the Taketomi-jima was mostly converted to a secondary one being dominated by Leucaena leucocephala, although the natural vegetation remained in the yards of Utaki (the holy place of the Island) and on the coastal lines. Ipomoea pes-caprae-Thuarea involuta community, Pandanus odoratissimus-Hibiscus tiliaceus community, Hernandia sonara association, Ficus microcarpa-Pisonia aculeata community were found to be the natural vegetation. The native and naturalized vascular plants were consisted of 196 species, 1 subspecies, 19 varieties, and 2 farms in total as shown in Table 1. In addition to the vascular plants of Table 1,the cultivated ones amounted to 145 species (a total of species, varieties, farms, cultivars) which were shown by italics in the list.
