Title :Analysis of the initial stage of sintering in pure materials by surface diffusion

Abstract :The initial-stage growth of two particles sintering by surface diffusion is analytically solved by a variational principle and use of the continuity equation. The solution satisfies the conservation of mass and is rigorously found without use of any approximations, unlike past studies. The expression for the growth of the two cylindrical particles shows that the length of the neck increases with the fifth power of time.
