Title :アルピタン語の社会言語学的実態 : 消滅の危機にさらされている、あまり知られていないロマンス語の一つ
Authors :Delbarre, Franck
Issue Date :Dec-2012
Abstract :This article aims to give some enlightment about one of the least known Romance languages spoken in the Gallo-Roman area, Arpitan, nowadays almostcompletely absorbed by the French language, and formerly called Francoprovençal. It used to be considered as a French or an Occitan dialect until the end of the nineteenth century, but was since recognised as an entirely separate Romancelanguage(Ascoli, 1877). This paper briefly recalls the long process of replacement of the native Arpitan language by French through centuries and more recent decades in the regions where Arpitan used to be widely spoken, that is to say in the regions situated at the borders between France, Switzerland and Italy. The author will also summarise the current situation of the language and its speakers mainly in the French administrative region of Rhône-Alpes as it is from there that he originates.
